The Textbook

In the first two years of Latin, we use Learn Latin from the Romans, by Eleanor Dickey. This is a new textbook (published in 2018) that makes great efforts to eliminate many of the issues of earlier textbooks, such as racism, classism, sexism, and problematic portrayals of slavery and colonization. It can be purchased as a print book or as an e-book for use on a computer, tablet, or e-reader. If you are experiencing financial difficulties or have concerns about purchasing the text, please contact your course instructor and we will help you get a copy of the text.

In the first year of Latin we also use this open access book of readings that the UBC Latin faculty has created to accompany the textbook.
